A total of 34 died after a boat capsized on a trip from Turkey to a tiny
Greek island. One distraught mum had made it to the beach but screamed:
“Where are my babies, where are my babies?” Fellow refugees told her:
“They’ve drowned.”
Another devastated mother wailed as she said she had lost her nine-month-old baby and nine-year-old son. Police confirmed four babies, six boys and five girls were among the victims.
Details of the nationalities and ages of the victims of yesterday's sinking off the island of Farmakonisi were not immediately available.
The coastguard said 68 people were rescued from the water and another 30 survivors from the same boat were found on Farmakonisi.
